The Leadership Academy is a community, not just a place. The academy is a place to learn, and to be transformed. It's a launch pad for the future of emerging leaders to become disciple makers, Romans 12:2 says; "Do not be shaped by this world. Instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you. And you will be able to know what is good and pleasing to God and what is perfect." ICB The Academy provides a place and time for young people to be transformed through His Word and Spirit. To be prepared for a life of following Him! Loving God leads us to Learn His teachings, Living according to His Word will Lead others to seek Him!
We focus on four primary values, Loving, Learning, Living and Leading. The value of Loving is exemplified in the "Great Commandment"; "Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind.’ This is the first and most important command. And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself." The value of Learning is seen in 2 Timothy 3:16&17; "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching and for showing people what to change in their lives. It is useful for correcting faults and teaching how to live right. Using the Scriptures, the person who serves God will be ready and will have everything he needs to do every good work." The value of Living comes from 1 John 2:6; "Whoever says that God lives in him must live as Jesus lived." The value of Leading is best expressed in Paul's words to the Corinthian church; "Imitate me as I imitate Christ", we are called to live a life worthy of imitation...this is Christ like leadership!
The academy has two main focuses; first to reach and train the emerging generation of leaders and second to reach and train mentors for the that generation. So, we follow Jesus' example and say "come see.” He then said to them "follow me." These are the first two basic steps of disciple making (Reach and Teach). The next two steps of the DM process is Train and Multiply, our focus shifts from the emerging generation to the current generation of leaders. Training mentors to train the emerging leaders is very clearly seen through the life of Paul with his young apprentice Timothy. The later stages of the DM process is a time of applying, in much the way of an apprenticeship...out of the class room into to the world. Jesus did this same thing when he sent out the seventy-two. Paul's instructions and encouragement to Timothy is a great example of how to apprentice emerging leaders. The Academy's second purpose is to provide a platform for leaders to apprentice or mentor "Timothies" for the churches of Italy.
Our programs vary depending on the individual's' needs. Our primary teaching is the life of Jesus, how He lived, what He taught and how he mentored His disciples. We see a clear picture to follow and imitate as we make disciples in today's world. One of our key programs, "Project Timothy" is a 9 month residential intensive, In addition to this, we offer weekend seminars and a 3 month internship as well. For mentors and leaders we see the methods of Paul and Timothy as a good guideline to follow today. Both of their methodologies were simple, reach, teach, train and multiply; the same methodology we apply today.
